Distributing Bookmarks over the Network
6. Feb. 2004: Bookman V1.0 released.
Download it here.
We are a project aiming at developing a networkbased bookmark management service.
It will be possible to store, access and manage your browserbookmarks transparently
on a central server.
We want to achieve this through a service wich includes a central bookmark server
and clientside plugins for browsers. They communicate via a special protocoll so that
it should be possible to implement a plugin for any browser (one could also develop
a stand alone management application).
During our thesis we will specify the protocoll and implement a proof-of-concept
server. On the clientside we will focus on supporting the three main stream browsers Mozilla,
Opera and MS Internet Explorer. You are very welcome to develop a plugin to support
your $BROWSER. This should be possible as soon as we release the first
version of the protocol specification on this site.
Since we are located in Switzerland most parts of the documentation are likely
to be written in german. I will translate the most important things to english
if there is the need.
